Para este libro, Pablo Vargas Lugo escribe: “Durante el primer viaje, a lo largo de tres días recorrimos la cueva —que no se había abierto a una visita desde 2010— (…) Además de mi cámara, lámparas, agua y comida, cargaba en mi mochila tres objetos que sabía podían parecer incongruentes y hasta irritantes en ese contexto: una impresión sobre tela que reproduce el patrón ajedrezado de un tapete masónico—en las logias representan el camino enrevesado entre la luz y la oscuridad que debe recorrer el iniciado— y un par de flautas barrocas que pertenecieron a mi padre y con las cuales yo había practicado días antes una más o menos ágil interpretación de las cinco notas ascendentes que identifican a Papageno, el cazador de pájaros y renuente iniciado de La flauta mágica.”

For this book, Pablo Vargas Lugo writes: “During the first trip, over the course of three days, we trekked through the cave—which had not been open to visitors since 2010—(...) In addition to my camera, lamps, water, and food, I carried three objects in my backpack that I knew might seem incongruous and even irritating in that context: a print on fabric reproducing the checkered pattern of a Masonic carpet—which in lodges represents the convoluted path between light and darkness that the initiate must travel—and a pair of Baroque flutes that belonged to my father, with which I had practiced, days prior, a more or less agile interpretation of the five ascending notes that identify Papageno, the bird catcher and reluctant initiate of The Magic Flute.”
